Way Back
This weekend is Homecoming at Bowling Green State University. Its my alma mater. I’m an alumnus. I haven’t been back there since I graduated in December of 2002. I take that back. I was there for a day in July of 2003 to move my then fiancé to Florida. My bad. It was long enough to go to BW3.
The fact that I haven’t been back in so long has been more a problem of practicality than want. I moved to Florida following graduation and that trip was a little long by car and a little expensive by plane. So needless to say I’m excited about this weekend. I’ll get to see Omar Jacobs throw all over the Temple Owls and hopefully our defense won’t give the game away. I’ll get to see some of my buddies that I haven’t seen in a while. But more importantly I’ll get to visit some of my old haunts. BW3, Trotters, Mugs, and hopefully Myles Pub to name a few.
I had a buddy get engaged recently. I called him to congratulate him the next day. His phone went directly to VM so I assume he was enjoying the perks of a fresh engagement. But he hasn’t called me back. This guy was a groomsman in my wedding. No one likes me.
After I get back from BG the MLB playoffs start next week. I will be making the trek south to Atlanta for the Braves first two games. Hopefully they wrap it up in 3 or 4 because my wallet won’t let me return for game 5. But I will be there if they get to the NLCS.
I feel like I’m getting old. Not so much physically or even mentally, but just in the things I do, or don’t do for that matter. I don’t really have anyone to hang out with here. You don’t find too many people my age in this area that aren’t dropouts or just aren’t my cup of tea if you know what I mean. I really do miss most of the people I used to work with. And of course the several hours of drunkenness we spent together. For example, there were many a Saturday last year that I would go to a buddy’s house in the afternoon, sit around all day drinking, and end up passing out there. It was great. As much as I’m enjoying this year’s season, it’s just not the same.
The baseball winter meetings are in Dallas this year. I went to Dallas last September for a seminar and it was awesome. So I’m looking forward to that, but last year I was there with one of my buddies from work, so we had a good time. And I’m not doubting that this will be a good time. I’ve just never been in that type of atmosphere with my new boss before. Who am I kidding; I’ll be drunk every night.
