I LOVE THE FANTASY WORLD

So I had my fantasy football draft last night. We’re a smaller league this year. Eight teams down from twelve a year ago. I guess you could blame the economy (not really, but everyone else does). The league members are spread out this season so this was my first experience with an online draft. I think that it went pretty smoothly. Besides the fact that 2 people didn’t show and another couldn’t participate because he was still at work. So as commish I had to proxy draft for the 3 of them. I’m not the type to boot people from the league; I like the fun of the league above all else. But my favorite part of the league is the draft, so how could you not show up.

Anyways, here’s how my draft panned out. I had the 8th pick that meant I had the 1st pick in the 2nd round. This couldn’t have worked out any better. For starters Willis McGahee fell to me at 8. Now I know that people are saying that teams will stack 8 or 9 in the box against him. That doesn’t matter. His line is solid and he is awesome. So my turn around pick in the 2nd round was next. Only one choice to make here, Randy Moss. As long as he’s healthy this season he’s a going to put up ridiculous numbers. I’m thinking 90/1400/15. If there’s one thing Kerry Collins does well it’s throw the deep ball. And what does Randy do best? That’s right, go after the deep ball. As you can guess I was stoked after these 2 picks. Here’s how the rest of my picks panned out:

3rd (24)-Kevin Jones; this couldn’t have come through any better.
4th (25)-Chad Johnson; most underrated receiver in football.
5th (40)-Tom Brady; always seems to fly under the radar in my drafts.
6th (41)-Baltimore’s D; as a Browns fan his always pains me, but they’re the best D in the
league.
7th (56)-Algie Crumpler; looking back I should have waited to take a TE especially when
Dallas Clark fell through the cracks and didn’t go until the 14th. But there was a
rush on TE’s and I kind of panicked.
8th (57)-Adam Vinatieri; the guys the best clutch kicker in history and from inside 40 he’s
automatic. Now usually I’m partial to dome kickers (don’t underestimate kicking indoors for at least half your games), but he was there so I took him.
9th (72)-Deion Branch; he was hurt most of last season, but what he did in the Super
Bowl shows what he’s going to do this season.
10th (73)-Lamont Jordan; I think I’m one of the few people that thinks he’s going to have
a huge year.
11th (88)-Chris Chambers; the guy’s good for 8 TDs a year.
12th (89)-Stephen Davis; he’s going to be healthy and you know they’ll run the hell out of
the ball. And he’s still one of the best short yardage backs in the league.
13th (104)-JJ Arrington-maybe a reach, but he’s going to be the man in Arizona. And
remember what other Denny Green RBs have done (Robert Smith).
14th (105)-Marcus Robinson; assuming he hangs on to the #2 spot he’ll have a big year.
15th (120)-Ben Watson-I think he will become Brady’s favorite target by the 4th week of
the season.

So that was my draft. Pretty successful in my opinion. I definitely feel like I have one of the top 3 teams in the league. Now they just have to play like it.
